Attn Republican Voters: Unmasking the Village Ballot

A political party line is supposed to represent a specific set of values. In our village, however, the party system has devolved into a political masquerade. Our annual caucuses have become a playground for a small group of insiders to maintain the status quo and limit competition, regardless of political affiliation.

The evidence is hiding in plain sight. Last year, we saw Democrats endorse Republican Kevin Huber. This year, the script flipped when a group of just four Republicans cross-endorsed Democrat JohnTyliszczak for 3rd Ward Trustee.

This insider gatekeeping is exactly why village voters are looking past major party lines. If the committees won’t protect their own values, voters must look to the individual—or to third-party options—to find a voice that hasn’t been traded away in a backroom deal.

The Record vs. The Ticket

When a candidate seeks a political party’s endorsement, voters typically expect their core values to align with that party’s platform. Trust is the foundation of representation. However, John Tyliszczak’s recent move to secure the Republican line raises serious questions about the sincerity of that alignment.

While Mr. Tyliszczak is currently campaigning as a Republican choice, his own public record tells a different story. In documented social media posts, he hasn’t just disagreed with Republican policies—he has expressed a fundamental disdain for the party itself.

The Record Speaks for Itself

On May 8, 2021, for example, Mr. Tyliszczak shared content from “Americans Against the Republican Party,” a group whose mission is the direct opposition of GOP values. This isn’t an isolated policy disagreement; it is a documented history of distancing himself from the very principles he now claims to represent on the ballot.

Why This Matters to You

Republican voters in the 3rd Ward deserve a candidate who actually respects their values, not someone who views the party line merely as a convenient vehicle to get elected. A cross-endorsement should signal a candidate who is a bridge-builder, but his record suggests a candidate who has publicly bashed the very people whose votes he is now soliciting.

Do not be misled by the label on the ballot. This year, the Republican line is being used to trick voters into supporting a candidate who has spent years publicly criticizing them.

When political caucuses fail to vet the candidates, the responsibility falls to the voters. It’s time to look beyond the political party masquerade.
