HHS Launches Study on Cellphone Radiation

Important Update on 5G & Cell Tower Safety

According to Trustee Masch, the families living near the proposed cell tower do not need to be concerned about health risks. Masch and other board members may have missed the major shift happening in how our government views the potential health risks of cell towers—and we all (including the trustees) need to pay attention.
For years, we were told the science was “settled.” But in January 2026, things changed at the federal and state levels:

The Federal Government is Re-evaluating:

In January 2026 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) officially launched a new study to identify “gaps in knowledge” regarding wireless radiation and 5G. In a massive move, the FDA recently removed webpages that previously gave a blanket safety assurance about cell phone radiation. They are now taking a precautionary stance because older studies may not apply to the new, high-frequency 5G tech being placed in our communities.

New York State is Taking Action:

A new bill (Senate Bill S7106) is currently moving through the NY Legislature. If passed, it would prohibit 5G towers within 250 FEET of a residence without the owner’s written consent.

Why is the board considering a cell tower when it could be putting residents at risk?

It appears that Telecom companies are trying to “fast-track” these towers into densely populated areas using outdated 1996 safety standards. But as our state and federal leaders are now acknowledging, bypassing community consent and ignoring modern health questions may be placing citizens at unnecessary risk.
