The Missing Mayor and the Lost Signature Stamp

The level of fiscal mismanagement and disregard for your hard-earned tax dollars is truly appalling.

The Mayor did not review debt payments, failed to maintain required transfer paperwork, and could not locate his physical signature stamp—which was being manually stamped onto massive transfers without his documented consent.

When the state tried to call and email him for months to fix delinquent reports, he ignored the messages, later stating that he “does not check his communications” and is rarely at Village Hall during the day.

The chief executive officer of the village has completely checked out. His signature stamp was floating around the office, being used on $341,000 transfers from the tax lockbox, and he didn’t even know who had custody of it.

How can we, the taxpayers, possibly trust this mayor and village board to oversee our community until we can finally hold them accountable at the ballot box next March?

You would think a scathing state audit would force a moment of reflection and a demand for reform from our elected officials. Instead, in spite of the fact that this audit has exposed their collective laissez-faire management of our public funds, this board is moving full steam to remove citizen oversight and add the water and sewer funds under their reckless care.

If they cannot be trusted to keep track of a physical signature stamp or a $341,000 tax lockbox, they have no business touching the vital infrastructure our families rely on every single day. March cannot come soon enough.
